romney is running in political news that may be blunting that momentum. the new unemployment report showing that the jobless rate has dipped below 8%, really taking away one of his key lines of attack against the president. for months, mitt romney has been saying the president failed to take the nation's unemployment rate below 8%, but at an event here in coal country in virginia, romney found a new way to crunch the numbers. here is what he had to say. >> there were fewer new jobs created this month than last month, and the unemployment rate, as you noted this year, has come down very, very slowly. but it has come down nonetheless. the reason it has come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work. >> reporter: now for much of this weekend, romney will be campaigning across the state of florida, a state where the economic message will resonate on the state's unemployment rate has gone down in recent months, it is well above the national average. brooke? >> jim acosta for us in virginia. jim, thank you. >>> also, we have s

heard mitt romney the last hour just say that the reason unemployment is down because there are so many people that stopped looking for work and what he says is that if you take a look at the number of people who were all seeking jobs, if they were actually included in that number, the real unemployment rate would be 11% because it would include all those folks that are certaining for work, instead of dropping out. does that look accurate? >> yes. here's why. if you look at something called the labor force participation rate, meaning the share of adult workers who are either in the labor market or looking for work, that has gotten smaller and smaller. it's the smallest since 1981 right now. that meensz people have left the labor market, so if you were -- and a lot of economist read these numbers -- if you were to looking look at the labor force participation rate from the day president obama took office and use that same size of the labor force today, you would have an unemployment rate more like 11%, not 7.8%. so on the very basis of that statistic, he is correct, but many economists w

unemployment rate, would actually favor the challenger, mitt romney. true? >> well, you would think so in conventional wisdom, it would certainly say so. but if you look at the polls throughout the summer really but even most recently in september, most of them do lean president obama's way, and so i think there's a question in nevada as to whether voters believe that mitt romney's got a better plan for fixing what ails nevada than simply staying the course with president obama. greg greg as i understand it, the demographics favor the president. is he counting on hispanic votes to carry him through? >> absolutely. that's a big part of the picture here. hispanics now make up about 27 percent of the population in nevada. we've really seen those numbers grow over the past ten years according to the census. turnout expected to be anywhere from 15-17%, and if the democrats can turn out hispanics in those higher numbers and hispanics in nevada by most polls' estimation are leaning towards the president by about 70%, that'll definitely be a key to the win here. gregg: and there's a sizable mo
